Our Kruger Park safari begins with collections in Johannesburg and the airport. The Kruger Park, South Africa’s premier game reserve is located in the subtropical savannahs’ of the low veld and provides ideal conditions for wildlife. The Kruger National Park is surrounded by private nature reserves and many of them have removed fences allowing wildlife to roam between the Kruger and private reserves.
This whole area is known as the “Greater Kruger” and is ideal for safaris. Our first game drive is in the private reserve of Balule. Our drive continues into the evening and we have an opportunity to view nocturnal animals using spotlights.
All game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles. A traditional braai (barbeque) is enjoyed under the stars deep in the African bush. The night is spent at a comfortable lodge.
Note that the Balule Game Reserve is a Big 5 reserve and is connected to the Kruger Park. All fences have been removed to allow for the free roaming of animals.
An exciting day awaits you. We depart early morning on a game drive into the African bush where we will do a 3 -4 hour bush walk. Note that the bush walk is led by an armed knowledgeable ranger and we learn about the bush, including spoor/tracks, birds, plants and smaller animals. Enjoy the thrill of stalking large wildlife on foot. We return to the lodge for brunch and a well-deserved rest.
In the afternoon we have a light lunch and head out for an afternoon game drive. After a full day, we make our way to our camp where we have dinner.
This evening we sleep in unique tree houses. The fully equipped tree houses are basic and rustic and offer something different. The camp is located in the Motlala Game Reserve which is home to a range of animals including black and white rhino, buffalo, giraffe and numerous antelope species.
After early morning breakfast, we board our special game viewing vehicle. The vehicles are open and allow for excellent viewing. We enter the Kruger National Park through Orpen Gate, located in the central area of the Kruger.
This part of the reserve is ideal for wildlife viewing and has the highest concentration of animals in Kruger Park. One can expect to see large herds of elephants, zebras, antelope as well as giraffes, rhinos, and predators including lions, cheetahs and leopards and enjoy amazing photographic opportunities.
We take a welcome break and lunch at one of the Kruger rest camps, before continuing our game drive. After an exciting day of wildlife viewing, we return to the tree house for a welcome rest.
After breakfast, we visit the popular Moholoholo Animal Orphanage. The orphanage is home to many animals including some that have been injured through snares, vehicles or fences.
One has the opportunity to get up close to the animals, including lions, leopards, hyenas and vultures. I the afternoon we head to a different private reserve for a game drive where we have an opportunity to spot the Big 5.
Another full day of game viewing in the Kruger National Park. Today presents an opportunity to spot any animals we may have not yet encountered. Sit back and soak up the African bush.
