Van Gogh Museum
1 Van Gogh is probably the world's most well-known and popular artist, on a guided private tour see this modern museum houses over 200 of his own paintings plus much more by his contemporaries. You don’t have to be a huge fan of Van Gogh to appreciate the great genius’ work. Over 1.5 million visitors walk through these halls each year making it one of the most famous museums in the world.
Ann Franks House
2 Everybody knows the haunting story of Ann Frank whose diaries came to light after her tragic death.  On a private tour visit the exact house she lived in, and that became her hiding place for over two years during World War II. Wander the attic where Ann and other family members were forced to stay and see her actual diary. A fascinating but highly emotional tour so be prepared with plenty of tissues.
Heineken Experience
3 Nobody and I mean nobody, will want to miss probably the best tour in Amsterdam.  Take a private tour of the Heineken Experience interactive museum housed in the original brewery building and maintaining its authentic interior.  Found in the centre of Amsterdam it explains the history and takes you behind the scenes of this famous brew. See the process and get some serious tasting in.
Dam Square
4 Dam Square dating back to the 13th century is buzzing day and night with locals and tourists alike. Come rain or shine there is always something to see whether it be a carnival in spring or street performers in the summer. Not far from Central Station the undisputed jewel of this square, however, is the architectural wonder of the 17th century Royal Palace. Take a seat at one of the many cafes around the square and soak up the atmosphere.
Tulips
5 Who can say Amsterdam without thinking of tulips and no trip there would be complete without a visit to one of the famous growing fields. Half an hour drive takes you on a journey through the picturesque countryside past traditional windmills to some of the most famous bulb fields of Holland. From mid April onwards Holland is transformed into an astounding multi-coloured patchwork of waving tulip heads with over 9 billion bulbs produce.
Canal Cruise
6 Where better to see a completely different angle to Amsterdam than from the water on a river cruise. Relax as the majestic 17th century buildings that line the canal slip by giving you a strong idea of days gone by before coming to the fast growing more modern 21st century city. Amongst other things you will see the Golden Bend and the Skinny bridge which, at night, is illuminated by thousands of lights giving it the title of the most.
Red Light District
7 Whatever your reasons for visiting the infamous red light district we are not here to judge. It often gets a lot of bad press, but it is one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam and has more to it than its more obvious trades. Avoiding the network of alleyways where the more risqué nightlife can be found this area is actually jammed full of beautiful gabled buildings and fabulous restaurants as you will see on your private tour.
Windmills
8 As iconic as clogs and Edam cheese are the windmills that littered the landscape of Holland. Windmills are so iconic they even have their own national day on the second Saturday in May. Just outside Amsterdam is the outdoor museum at Zaanse Schans dedicated to the heritage of the humble windmill and its various roles from preventing flooding to grinding seeds for mustard the favourite Dutch condiment.
De Pijp
9 Although not a historical area as such De Pijp its the most fantastic shopping area. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, it is a mainly residential area with a distinctly Bohemian feel. A huge melting pot of nationalities and cultures you will find authentic Moroccan and Syrian restaurants on the same streets as authentic Dutch pubs. Where the most amazing traditional market still exists alongside the more modern boutiques
Cycle the city
10 Bicycles played a vital role in history when they were used as a socialist symbol by artists and woman campaigning for the vote. Its a practical way to see the city and explore off the beaten track, get amongst the locals and discover the hidden side of the capital. It is said there are more bikes than people and this proves the importance of the humble bike. It is cheap, and there are thousands of bike rental points all over the city.
