When walking through Convent Garden, you almost feel as though your back in 18th century London
Covent Garden located in the West End of London, Covent Garden is the main theatre and entertainment area. Today the covered market building is home to shops selling gourmet, specialist foods and souvenirs. The piazza area is famous for its street performers. Covent Garden is a significant draw for visitors and Londoners who enjoy its many attractions, including shopping, theatre, restaurants, bars, history and culture.
There are various smaller areas within that are worth exploring such as The Opera Quarter, St Martin's Courtyard, Seven Dials, Neal's Yard and Floral Street. Covent Garden may be fashionable, up to the minute shopping destination, but the past also has a place here.
For 300 years it held the first fruit, flower, and vegetable market of the metropolis. Alongside the former market, the site stands the Royal Opera House, home of Britain’s oldest national opera and ballet companies. The Royal Opera House forms one corner of Covent Garden's Piazza, although its main entrance is on Bow Street.
You can see here celebrated performances by the Royal Opera or Royal Ballet companies or take a guided tour backstage to enjoy a glimpse behind-the-scenes of the sumptuous gilt-and-velvet decorated auditorium.
